Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo didn’t make it off the bench, but Manchester United were good enough for a stunning win at the Parc Des Princes on Tuesday evening.
United captain on the night, Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but Anthony Martial’s second-half own goal levelled scores for PSG before Marcos Rashford’s late drive claimed a 2-1 win and all three points for the Reds in their UEFA Champions League opening group game.
The Parisians unleashed their favourite attacking trio of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Angel Di Maria. Still, it was the visitors who took the lead midway into the first 45 minutes thanks to a retaken Fernandes penalty.
Despite missing the services of England international Harry Maguire, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s men protected that slim advantage until shortly after the interval when Martial headed into his own goal off a Neymar corner-kick.
Either side could have won the game late on as chances after chances were created with the time ticking on, but it was the Red Devils who found the breakthrough yet again in a repeat of their last visit to the Parc Des Princes last year.
The ball came to Rashford on the edge of the area, and the United striker made enough room to lash his shot across Keylor Navas into the far corner to earn his side the maximum points and kick their Champions League campaign off to a perfect start.
