The Six-time Ballon d’Or winner is reportedly considering ending his time at the Camp Nou to seek a new adventure, but the club president has shut down the reports.
Barcelona president, Josep Bartomeu, has denied reports claiming Lionel Messi will leave the club this summer, while he also confirmed that Ronald Koeman is the club’s new manager.
The Blaugrana ended a disastrous season with an embarrassing 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Barcelona’s loss to Bayern meant the club went trophyless for the first time since 2008, and it also cost both Quique Setien and Eric Abidal their jobs. With the club in disarray, rumours emerged that the club’s talisman, Lionel Messi, wants to leave the club.
However, Bartomeu debunked the reports, saying the Argentina captain wants to end his career at the Camp Nou.
“Messi wants to end his career at Barça. I regularly speak to him and his father. He’s part of our project, Bartomeu said.
The 57-year-old also revealed Holland manager, Ronald Koeman, will replace Setien as the team’s manager, which is the start of a new project.
“Koeman will be the new manager, and he told me that Messi is a key player for our new project, Bartomeu added.
