Championship: Wayne Rooney’s Winner Sinks Ovie Ejaria’s Reading; Ebere Eze Poor At The Valley

The Anglo-Nigerian midfielder, on-loan from Liverpool, endured another disappointing afternoon as his Reading side lost 2-1 to Derby County at the Pride Park Stadium on Saturday.

Oviemuno Ejaria was the star of the show at Derby, but Tom Lawrence’s 10th goal of the campaign and Wayne Rooney’s penalty on the stroke of halftime handed Phillip Cocu’s men all the three points at stake.

Andrew Rinomhota’s goal gave Reading a second-half lifeline, but Ejaria and mates could not find the equalizer that their efforts so merited.

At the Valley, Ebere Eze and Bright Osayi-Samuel suffered their second loss in as many matches as Charlton Athletic recorded a 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers.

Darren Pratley’s winner arrived as early as the 12th minute, but QPR could not muster the response needed to keep alive their playoff hopes.

Eze has been QPR’s standout performer this season, scoring 12 times and creating eight assists in 39 league matches. He also delivered a man-of-the-match performance in his side’s loss to Barnsley last week.

The Super Eagles target would, however, be disappointed with his display against the Addicks on Saturday afternoon.

The loss leaves Mark Warburton’s men in 13th position, ten points behind Cardiff City who currently occupy the Championship’s last playoff spot.
