Lewandowski Makes History As Ujah Fires Blank In Union Berlin’s Loss To Bayern

Anthony Ujah could not save Union Berlin from defeat as Lewandowski became the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to score 40 goals in all competition this season

Bayern Munich moved four points clear of Borussia Dortmund with a 2-0 victory over Union Berlin in their first game since the Bundesliga was suspended due to the coronavirus.

The Bavaria giants lead was cut to just one yesterday following Dortmund’s 4-0 win over Schalke 04 on Saturday.

However, their four-point lead was restored following a comfortable win over Urs Fischer’s men. Robert Lewandowski 40th goal of the season and 26th in the league gave the champions a first-half lead.

The Poland international put Bayern ahead from the penalty spot after Neven Subotic has fouled Leon Goretzka in the box.

Union Berlin tried to get back into the game through Nigeria’s Anthony Ujah but his header just before half-time was blocked which resulted in a corner kick.

The second half began in the same fashion the first ended with Union Berlin on the attack. However, it was Bayern that ensured the three points would be going back with them to Allianz Arena.

Hans-Dieter Flick’s side sealed the three points when Benjamin Pavard headed home from a Joshua Kimmick’s cross in the 80th minute.

The win put Bayern on 58 points, four clear of Dortmund who are in second place.
