The former Super Eagles skipper quit Trabzonspor under acrimonious circumstances, but Dosu Joseph doesn’t see him staying out of the game for an extended period.
Atlanta 1996 Olympics gold medalist, Joseph, is not impressed by the way Mikel Obi handled his exit at the Turkish side, but he expects that the 32-year-old’s exploits at Chelsea will help him secure another deal soon.
Mikel brought an end to his nine months stay in Turkey after going on social media to criticize the decision of the country’s football authorities not to shut down the league in the face of growing COVID-19 concerns.
At the time, major football leagues across the world had been suspended to prevent the spread of the deadly killer-virus.
Dosu believes the midfielder – who won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Europa League and the UEFA Champions League with the Blues – would not be short of suitors willing to take him off the transfer market.
“I think it’s a big decision for him to end his contract,” he told Goal.
“I believe it will not take him much time to get a new club because he has done so well for himself.
“He had a very good record playing in the Premier League for Chelsea and won a lot of trophies.”
