Super Eagles Assistant Coach Joseph Yobo Taking Coaching Tutorials – President, Coaches Association

The former Super Eagles captain is undergoing training to be fit to serve in his new role as Gernot Rohr’s assistant, reports Soccernet.ng.

The President of the Nigeria Coaches Association Ladan Bosso has revealed that newly appointed assistant coach of the Super Eagles, Joseph Yobo, is presently receiving training towards obtaining a coaching certification needed to deliver quality in his new role.

Former Everton skipper, Yobo was named as Rohr’s deputy earlier in the year to take over from Imama Amapakabo. The ex-international defender’s appointment, however, elicited mixed reactions after it came to light that he does not possess any coaching certificate to function in such an elevated position.

But the erstwhile coach of the Flying Eagles, Bosso has backed Nigeria Football Federation’s choice of Yobo, insisting that the Super Eagles’ most capped player in history will add value to Rohr’s team.

While predicting that the experienced defender could one day manage the Super Eagles, Bosso confesses that Yobo is currently in a coaching class.

“I see Yobo handling the senior team in future, and if you must know, Yobo is currently undergoing tutorials in coaching now,” coach Bosso told The Nation Online.

“We talk often. Yobo attends coaches meeting in Rivers State, and he contributes to all the coaches’ programmes in the state,” said Bosso.

Yobo is one of Nigeria’s most successful former stars, with the former Marseille strongman, one of the few Africans to serve as a substantive captain of a Premier League club.
