Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has maintained that he will not go cap in hand, begging the principal officers of the Nigeria Football Federation to offer him a new contract, Soccernet.ng reports.
The former Bordeaux manager is in the last months of his two-year contract with the three-time African champions, but he’s yet to put pen to paper on extending his tenure.
The 66-year-old gaffer can count his spell as Nigeria coach as a successful one having led the team in 49 games, recording 29 wins, 11 draws, and only nine losses.
During his time in charge of the 2013 African champions, Rohr led the side to a third-place finish at the 2019 Afcon tournament.
The NFF, though, do not appear thrilled about offering the Franco-German tactician a new contract with the football body keen on introducing new terms to their previous agreement.
Rohr, however, is staying calm despite the delay and uncertainty, choosing instead to focus on the fitness and health of his Super Eagles player, especially in the face of the Coronavirus outbreak.
“I will not ask the NFF what is going on with my contract renewal (with just over three months left on his present deal). It’s for the NFF to approach me. I am still waiting,” BBC’s Osas Obayiuwana quoted Rohr on Twitter.
“My job is to focus on the SuperEagles, as long as I am the coach of this team. And I am going to do just that.
“Right now, my concern is that our players in Europe stay physically fit, even when they are not playing, because of the coronavirus situation.”
