Exclusive: Emmanuel Amuneke’s Agent Denies Coach Has Been Sacked By Egyptian Club

Reports had it on Sunday that the former Super Eagles star is no longer El-Makasa’s head coach just a month after his appointment, but his agent has now denied that.

In an exclusive interview with Soccernet, Emmanuel Amuneke’s agent has debunked reports saying the Nigerian has been sacked as the manager of Egyptian side, El-Makasa.

The former Barcelona star was appointed as the club’s manager after he was dismissed as Tanzania’s manager following the Taifa Stars group stage exit at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

He was appointed as the club’s manager last month, replacing Ahmed Mido. But after just two games in charge, news emerged that he is no longer the club’s head coach, and has been replaced by Ehab Galal.

It’s also believed that the Nigerian was offered another role at the club. However, in an exclusive interview with Soccernet, his agent and head of the agency that represents him, Koye Sowemimo, denied the reports, although he admitted the club are planning to make some changes.

“That news (Amuneke’s dismissal) is completely false. Nothing has happened. It is unfortunate because media are quick to react. “There’s no truth in what has been released,” he told Soccernet.

“The club are having conversations about strategies and larger project, so there’s nothing that has come true in terms of him being released from the club,” he added.

When pressed on whether Amuneke is still the coach of El-Makasa, he said; “As far as I know, yes that is the case and nothing contrary has been reported to me from the club or him.”

Asked about the news that the former Zamalek winger has been offered a new role at the club, Sowemimo revealed conversations are still going on, but nothing has been decided.

“That’s what I mentioned, that conversations are going on about the longer terms project around Africa. So that has not been confirmed, and until that is done, It is important to wait,” he said.

He, however, expressed hope a decision will be made before the end of the week.
