What Iheanacho Said After VAR Ruled Out His Goal Against Norwich

Norwich took the full points against Leicester City, but it could have been different if the Nigeria international’s goal had been allowed. 

Kelechi Iheanacho’s found the back of the net in Leicester’s 1-0 loss to Norwich, but his effort was ruled out for handball by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

The Nigeria international thought he had given the foxes the lead when his left-footed curler went past Tim Krul in Norwich’s goal.

However, following a VAR review, it was ruled out as he was adjudged to have handled the ball in the build-up.

Although it looked harsh, Iheanacho has no hard feelings, saying the team needs to turn their focus to the next game.

The former Manchester City admits the result is disappointing, but he rallied his teammates to turn their attention to the remaining games of the season.

Leicester host Birmingham City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday and Iheanacho urged his teammates to start looking towards that game.

“It was a disappointing evening, especially for us,” Iheanacho told LCFC TV. “We shouldn’t have lost this game, but unfortunately it happened, so we should do more.

“The next games, we should concentrate, focus and work really hard to make sure we get the points that we need.

“Obviously, that wasn’t a goal from VAR, but I haven’t watched the replay. I thought it hit the defender’s shoulder, but I wasn’t sure it hit my hand.

“If that’s the rule, there’s nothing we can do about it. We just move on.

“It’s disappointing, it’s disappointing for us, but as I said before, we just move on to the next one and make sure we get the points that we need.”

“At this point, there is not a lot, because we’ve got 10 games left and the FA Cup,” Iheanacho added.

“We need to be focused, and we need to work hard and make sure we get our mentality right to make sure we get the points that we need.”

Despite the disappointment of seeing his goal ruled out, Iheanacho is still Leicester City’s third-highest goalscorer this season with eight goals in all competitions.
