The former international becomes the first Nigerian to feature and score for the Red Devils, and it sparked off wild reactions on the social media micro-blogging site.
Odion Ighalo has sent Twitter into overdrive after the 30-year-old found the back of the net in Man United’s 5-0 defeat of Club Brugge in a Europa League match on Thursday night.
The on-loan Shanghai Shenhua forward, making his full debut at Old Trafford, was among the goal scorers as the hosts secured a comfortable 6-1 aggregate win over their Belgian foes. The first leg, played in Belgium last week, ended in a 1-1 draw.
Three first-half goals from Bruno Fernandez, Odion Ighalo, and Scott McTominay, plus a second-half double from Fred handed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men an easy passage to the Round of 16 of UEFA’s second-tier club competition.
Fernandez converted from the penalty spot, with 27 minutes played after Simon Deli was sent off for handling the ball in the area.
Ighalo then doubled the home side’s lead just past the half-hour mark after good link-up between Fernandez and Juan Mata.
McTominay added a third just before the break. A brace from Fred after the break completed the rout for the rampant hosts.
With the well-taken goal, Ighalo becomes the first African player to score for Manchester United in all competitions since Eric Bailly in August 2017 against Swansea in the Premier League.
Here are some of the best reactions to the former Watford man’s goal.
