Oshoala Matches Nigeria Legend, Wins 4th CAF Best Player Award

The Super Falcons striker has been named the best female player on the continent, winning a record-equalling fourth award.

Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala has become only the second player in history – after compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha – to win the CAF African Women’s Player of the Year award a record four times.

The former Arsenal attacker had previously won the coveted award in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

A fantastic year began when the 25-year-old joined Barcelona on loan from Chinese club Dalian Quanjian F.C on the last day of the first month. It got better has Oshoala became the first African player to score in the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, albeit in the Spanish side’s 4-1 defeat to Lyon Ladies.

After sealing a permanent transfer to Barca, Oshoala then led the Super Falcons to the second round of the Women’s World Cup in France. The Nigerian ladies later crashed out of the tournament after losing 3-0 to Germany in a round-of-16 clash.

‘Superzee’ still did not let up as she rejoined the Blaugranes where her 10 goals in 13 league matches have sent coach Lluis Cortes side to the top of the La Liga Femeni table.

Congratulations, Asisat Oshoala; the 2019 CAF African Women’s Player of the Year.
