Super Eagles star Ola Aina played a key role as Torino caused an upset with a 2-0 victory over Roma in the Serie A encounter between the two sides at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night.
The 23-year-old made his eleventh start of the season in his fifteenth league appearance as a brace from Andrea Belotti secured a stunning win for Walter Mazzari’s side.
The Nigerian international played for 89 minutes, and won two aerial duels, had a pass percentage success rate of 68% with three interceptions.
Italy striker, Andrea Belotti opened the scoring in the added minute of the first half after a back pass fell to a Torino player who then sent the Italy international on goal.
The second came from the penalty spot four minutes from time following a handball from former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
Initially, the ref waved play on, but after a VAR review, he decided to award a spot-kick to Torino which Belotti buried by sending the keeper the wrong way.
The win lifts Torino to ninth with 24 points from 18 games while Roma missed the chance to close the gap on Lazio. The Giallorossi stay in fourth place with 35 points but are now four points behind their city rivals who won at Brescia earlier in the day.
