Nigeria Or England: Former Premier League Star Advises Eberechi Eze On What To Do

The QPR star is eligible to play for both Nigeria and England, but a former England international has urged Ebere Eze not to rush in making a decision.

Ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Bothroyd has charged Eze not to hurry into committing his future to any of the two national football teams as there is still enough time for the 21-year-old to make such a life-changing decision. Bothroyd, however, suggested that the three-time African champions may be a better fit for the precocious talent of the exciting midfielder.

Eze is at the centre of a battle between Nigeria and England having enjoyed a fine campaign so far with Queens Park Rangers. The attacking midfielder has scored 10 goals and registered six assists in the Championship this season.

This stellar form compelled the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amanju Pinnick, to visit the former Millwall starlet in London who tried to convince him to star for the Super Eagles.

England then made the next move by inviting Eze and handing him his U21 debut late last year in a UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification victory over Albania.

However, speaking to 888sport in quotes carried by Football League World, Bothroyd was clear about how the youngster should handle the tricky issue between the Super Eagles and the Three Lions.

“He (Eze) doesn’t have to commit to anything right now. It depends on the player. Even though he was born in England his parents might want him to play for Nigeria,” said the former Arsenal Academy graduate.

“But it’s a decision he has to make himself and it comes down to preference.

“Nigeria are a strong team so it’s not like he’s going to go off and play for a lesser team. They’re a good international team.”
