Ebere Eze: NFF Insist On QPR’s Talented Youngster

The exciting midfielder remains under the radar of Nigeria’s football officials despite backlash received for his unnecessary public pursuit.

Eberechi Eze is enjoying a breakthrough season at Queens Park Rangers with the talented youngster notching ten goals in the Championship this term. The 21-year-old has also put up a string of excellent displays to raise the interests of Premier League club Tottenham and the Super Eagles in his services.

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amanju Pinnick, has never hidden his dreams of seeing the England youth international star for Gernot Rohr’s side.

Mr Pinnick paid Eze a visit in London back in November to convince the young midfielder to switch his international allegiance to the birth country of his parents, a move that generated criticisms from many quarters.

Nigerians apparently had not forgotten how the NFF President sensationalized his chase of Chelsea star Tammy Abraham only for the young striker to choose England’s Three Lions instead.

But the public backlash seemingly has not douse the enthusiasm of Nigeria’s football body with the Media Officer of the Super Eagles, Toyin Ibitoye, revealing that the national team’s scouts were still working to see Ebere Eze wear the green and white colours of the three-time African champions.

“The Super Eagles scouts are still working on Eze to play for Nigeria; he is a good player and will be a good addition to the team as we prepare for the qualifications for the World Cup,” Ibitoye told the News Agency of Nigeria in quotes carried by the Eagle Online.

“We have other players who are equally good and can provide the necessary competition and back-up for the team.
“Nigeria is blessed with excellent players.

“We are happy that all our players are doing well in their respective clubs; Kelechi Iheanacho is now doing well; we have Victor Osimhen firing for Lille and Samuel Chukwueze doing well.

“We also have Samuel Kalu, Moses Simon, the skipper of the team, Ahmed Musa, Troost-Ekong and the host of them soaring high on the continent.”

Eze was born in Greenwich, Greater London but he is of Nigerian ancestry and once trained with the Nigeria national team.
