CAF Awards: Osimhen, Chukwueze, Oshoala To Know Fate Today

The 2019 CAF awards hold today in Egypt with Asisat Oshoala, Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen up for the Women’s player of the year, and Young player of the year respectively.

Oshoala will go up against Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout and South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana for the Women’s player of the year award- a prize she has won three times.

If she wins tonight, Oshoala will equal the record of former Super Falcons forward Perpetua Nkwocha who holds the record of highest no of wins in the category (4).

Although Nigeria’s Super Falcons will not be playing at the Olympics, it was still a good year for Oshoala, leading Nigeria to the second round of the FIFA Women’s world cup.

At club level, she was part of the Barcelona team that finished as runners-up in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last season.

Meanwhile, Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen will also be hoping to go home with an award this evening. The two Nigerian stars have been nominated in the young player of the year category alongside Borussia Dortmund’s and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi.

In the Men’s player of the year category, Liverpool’s duo Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will go up against Riyad Mahrez for the coveted award.

And according to reports, Sadio Mane is already in Egypt, but Salah and Mahrez will not be attending the event for reasons unknown.
