The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have been making attempts to convince Ebere Eze to switch international allegiance, but according to reports, Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr wants the federation to go for Ovie Ejaria.
NFF president, Amaju Pinnick had visited Eze a few weeks ago with the hope he will dump England for Nigeria. However, according to a report from Punch, Rohr would love to have Ovie Ejaria in his team instead.
The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Reading from Liverpool and has featured 17 times for the Royals, scoring three times.
Although Ejaria was born in London, he is eligible to play for the Super Eagles through his parents. The former Rangers man has featured for the England U-21 side, but he is still eligible to play for Nigeria’s national team.
Speaking in the interview, Rohr urged NFF to dump their pursuit of Eze, and go for Ejaria instead.
“He’s (Ovie Ejiara) a good player no doubt and I will prefer him in the team now than the player (Eberechi Eze) the Federation are in talks with,” Rohr told Punch.
“We will contact him and know what must be done to make him play for us. He is a better player than Eze.
If he decides to commit his international future to Nigeria, Ejaria will be the latest player to dump England for the Super Eagles- following the likes of Iwobi, Ola Aina, Victor Moses and Joe Aribo.
