Red Hot Super Eagles Hopeful Told To Cut Out One Flaw To Become World-Class

Heracles Almelo striker Cyriel Dessers has been charged to work on a singular weakness that has stunted his development, which could hamper his Super Eagles chances.

Former NAC Breda manager Stijn Vreven under whom Cyriel Dessers netted an astonishing 22 goals in just 36 league games as Breda secured promotion to the Eredivisie in 2017, has pointed Dessers laziness as the only reason why the 24-year-old is not yet a top level striker.

Belgium-born Cyriel Dessers, who has a Nigerian mother and has expressed his desire to play for Gernot Rohr’s side, is enjoying a fantastic start to life in Heracles having scored 11 times in 15 matches after managing just 5 strikes for Utrecht last term.

However, his former coach, with whom Dessers had his most prolific season till date, is convinced that the on-form target man can rise to the top if he cuts out his laid back approach to football.

“Cyriel is a bit lazy by nature. He needs a lot of incentives to get going. That is also the reason that we had a love-hate relationship in Breda,” Stijn Vreven told dG.

“At one point I was so fed up with that easy-going person that I put him on the couch. He was shocked. But with success.

“I think that that signal was ultimately the key to the promotion of NAC in 2017. After all, in the after competition, Cyriel was so agitated that every ball he hit ended up in the goal.

When asked how far Cyriel can go with such huge goalscoring potentials, Stijn Vreven responded:

“Predicting things like this is always difficult.

“I have experienced Dirk Kuijt at FC Utrecht. Never, never had I thought that he would make it that far.

“Let me put it this way: If Cyriel gives everything, he can rise to be the best in the Dutch League. He has the qualities for it. Only, that laziness must get out.”

Dessers is currently Eredivisie top scorer with eleven goals and was named the player for the month of November in the Dutch topflight.
