Iwobi Denied By De Gea But Everton End United’s Winning Run

Alex Iwobi was close to scoring his third goal for Everton but was denied by David De Gea as Everton played out a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League encounter between the two sides on Sunday.

It was a good result for the Toffees as they remained unbeaten under caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson. Coming off the back of a 3-1 win over Chelsea last weekend, Everton started brightly, and they took the lead in the 36th minute through a Victor Lindelof own goal.

The goal came after David De Gea failed to deal with a Leighton Baines corner properly which inadvertently hits Lindelof to go in.

Man Utd tried to find a way back into the game, but it was Everton who went into the break with the lead. The second half started with United on the front foot, but they found it difficult to break down a well set up Everton side.

It took the intervention of Mason Greenwood for Solskjaer’s side to get back in the game. Brought on for Jesse Lingard in the 65th minute, the England youngster levelled the scores for United in the 77th minute with a left foot footed finish from the edge of the box.

Both sides pushed forward for the winner, but it was Everton who went close through Alex Iwobi. However, the Nigerian international’s shot was brilliantly pushed away for a corner by David De Gea.

It was the last real chance of the match as both teams had to settle for a point. United will be more disappointed after a brilliant run of form that saw them beat Tottenham, Manchester City and Az Alkmaar.

However, Everton will be satisfied after picking up four points in their last two games. Next up for the Toffees is a league cup clash against Leicester City before they take on Arsenal in the league next weekend.
