The Super Eagles playmaker has been identified has the one creative player who can drive the Toffees out of their current rotten run of form should he become more decisive in attack.
Former Manchester United and Everton striker Louis Saha believes a more productive Alex Iwobi can be the catalyst for an Everton turnaround and even save manager Marco Silva’s job.
The former Watford boss is on the brink of losing his job with the Toffees after Wednesday night’s 5-2 derby defeat against Premier League leaders Liverpool, only days after overseeing an agonisingly close 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.
Super Eagles playmaker Iwobi started that match but could influence little as the Reds condemned the struggling visitors to their ninth loss in their first 15 games of the season and are 18th in the Premier League table.
However, a former Champions League winner with Manchester United, Saha, believes that Everton’s Nigerian import – signed for a huge fee from Arsenal over the summer – has the qualities to pull Marco Silva and his men out of their rut with games against Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal still to come, as well as a Carabao Cup clash against Leicester City.
“Alex Iwobi was a massive signing for Everton and he will be very important for Everton’s success,” Luis Saha told Bwin as monitored by Soccernet.ng.
“He is an intelligent player, but there is room for improvement. “He needs to be more clinical and consistent, only then will we see his true quality.
“This Everton squad is experiencing problems but the players have the quality to overcome them and have a good season. At the moment, the team isn’t decisive enough in attack,” Saha noted.
