Alex Iwobi’s Boss Sacked

Everton have sacked manager Marco Silva after Wednesday’s huge 5-2 defeat to bitter rivals Liverpool which marked the height of a dreadful start to the 2019-20 season that has seen the Toffees drop into the relegation zone.

Alex Iwobi’s Everton manager, Marco Silva, has been sacked by the Merseyside club, after the English football side fell into the relegation zone.

Despite spending big over the summer, including the multimillion pounds signing of Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi from Arsenal, Marco Silva led Everton to occupy 18th position on the Premier League table.

The Spanish gaffer, who helped Everton finish 8th on the English Premier League table last season, has overseen just one win out of the last six with the Toffees claiming 14 points from 15 league games.

The dismissal of Marco Silva was confirmed in a statement released by the club on Thursday evening.

“Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the Club,” the statement said.

“Majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, chairman Bill Kenwright and the board of directors would like to thank Marco for his service over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.

“Duncan Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the first team and will manage the side for the game against Chelsea on Saturday.

“The club aims to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.”

Interim manager Duncan Ferguson, a former Toffees player, will be in charge when Everton face Chelsea.

Former Everton boss David Moyes, who managed the team for over a decade, is reportedly the leading candidate to take over as the permanent manager.
