Mourinho Ready To Raid Sporting Lisbon, Man United, Benfica For Players In January

New Tottenham manager, Jose Mourinho is prepared to raid some of the top clubs in Europe as he bid to strengthen his squad ahead of the January transfer window.

The Portuguese tactician was hired by Spurs Chairman, Daniel Levy after the sacking of former manager, Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday due to poor results in the Premier League.

The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss is hoping to improve his playing squad in January to give him a better chance of winning silverware.

The Independent report that the Mourinho is interested in Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, Benfica’s Ruben Dias and United’s Nemanja Matic.

Fernandes was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford during the previous three transfer windows and has already scored eight goals so far this season.

The 25-year-old would provide some back up to a Tottenham midfield that is short of creativity and could replace the unsettled Christian Eriksen.

Dias, 22, has caught the eye of many potential suitors for his performances at Benfica during that past two seasons, forcing his way into the Portugal national team.

The central defender could be tempted by a move to link up with his countryman and provide a long-term replacement for Toby Alderwiereld or Jan Vertonghen.

A player that Mourinho is very familiar with is United’s Matic, who is set to leave the club after falling out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 31-year-old was signed by Mourinho at Chelsea back in 2014 before the Special One brought him to United in 2017.

Despite the ongoing transfer links surrounding Tottenham, their new boss has promised fans that he will focus on bringing through players from their academy.

Speaking to Spurs TV, he said: “There is not one manager in the world that doesn’t like to play young players and to help young players to develop – not one.

“The problem is that sometimes you get into clubs where the work that is below you is not good enough to produce these players.

“So I look to our history and you see that the academy is always giving talents the first team need.

“Of course I always look forward to working with that profile.”
