Joe Aribo Declares Readiness To Hurt Benin, Lesotho After Scoring Landmark Goal

The Super Eagles’ goalscoring midfielder has revealed he can’t wait to face Benin Republic on Wednesday and Lesotho four days later as Nigeria begin preparations for the 2021 Afrcan Cup of Nations tournament.

Joe Aribo was yet to make his international debut when the three-time African champions earned a bronze medal at the last AFCON championships in Egypt but he has not looked back ever since receiving his first call up.

The 23-year-old midfielder netted on his Super Eagles debut – a 2-2 draw – against Ukraine and repeated the trick in his second match a monthly later against Brazil, another 1-1 stalemate.

Despite starring in this two friendly games, Aribo can still switch nationality and play for England, his country of birth.

However, the former Charlton Athletic star is living a dream playing for his fatherland and wouldn’t think of replacing that honour with anything else.

“It is always good to be part of the international squad,” Aribo told Rangers TV moments after scoring his first ever league goal for Steven Gerrard’s side.

“I think it is like an honour to represent my country so I’m just happy to be out there and I can’t wait to go out there to play.”

Joe Aribo is expected to travel back to Nigeria and join coach Gernot Rohr’s men in camp as the Super Eagles cook up the tactical plans needed to shoot down the Squirrels of Benin however, the Gers star has admitted that he isn’t fond of traveling but for Nigeria he would do anything.

”Funny enough I didn’t really like traveling but it just got to be done. It comes with the game,” Aribo added.
