The former Girondins Bordeaux defender and manager has come under severe attack from former England international striker, John Fashanu for ‘underachieving’ with the Super Eagles.
John Fashanu, a former board member of Nigeria Football Federation NFF, has taken aim at coach Gernot Rohr for not leading the senior national team to glory since he was hired more than three years ago.
Expressing his displeasure in a chat with Complete Sports that was monitored by Soccernet.ng, Fashanu blasted Rohr for his below-par work and his inability to integrate domestic league players into his team since he assumed work as Nigeria’s senior soccer team coach.
“I think Rohr has underachieved as the coach of Super Eagles,” the former Wimbledon forward began.
“What has he (Rohr) achieved, what has he won?
“That team is certainly not good enough to dominate African Football. We still have a lot of work to do to be the best in Africa. For now, we don’t have a team yet.”
“At the moment, this is one of the lowest times I have seen of the Super Eagles. I am sorry to say that, but I am not excited about the team now and I feel the coach is not doing enough with domestic players. Rohr should stay in Nigeria and develop our league players”
Fashanu continued: “lt amazes me anytime I hear Rohr saying that Nigerian league players are not good enough to play for Super Eagles.
“It is a shame that he could say that of a team that won the AFCON in 2013 with about nine home based players. A local boy [Sunday] Mba even scored the lone goal that won us the Cup.”

Are you satisfied with the flash-in-pan performances of our Super Eagles in the past three years? Are we supposed to be celebrating victories achieved by the skin of our teeth over small footballing nations such as the Benin Republic and Lesotho? We are yet to meet Algeria or Senegal o!
Part of the brief of any national football coach is to improve on the fortunes of the local league. Why are there no more than one player from the Nigerian league playing in the Super Eagles team? If they are not good enough to represent you, whose fault should that be? Yours or mine?
Assuming that you are a football coach charged with improving the standard of home-based players and establishing a strong national team, what impact would you make if you chose to live in Tunisia, for example, and begin to establish your Super Eagles team by selecting some Nigerian footballers plying their wares in clubs located in Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, and Morocco, with none from Kano Pillars, Rangers of Enugu, Warri Wolves etc.? Would that make any sense to you?
These and other important issues are what you should address, not adopting abusive language in attacking those who make good suggestions.
What did this guy did for Nigeria in his playing days let him go fuck a horse
John Fashanu is free to say whatever he wants to say. I think Rohr has done a great job by scouting for good players from various leagues abroad. When it seems local league players couldn't prove themselves even before our league started having issues. Rohr has succeeded in building a bunch of young and talented footballers. Rohr has met the target set by his employers nff. Maybe John has something hidden we do not know.
David God bless your heart
John Fashanu was born in England and when Nigeria needed him he answered the call but the then national team coach refused to use him. So we should stop blaming him for not playing for Nigeria. As for Rohr, it is true that he has under achieved, if the late Stephen Keshi could win the Nation's cup and qualified us for World Cup then got to the second round within the same period of time, then why are we praising Rohr. Besides, Keshi spotted very good players loçally and used them, what is Rohr doing. Our team does not have a well cut out playing pattern. Watch our super Eagles players, each time they get in and around the 18 yards box of their opponent they will begin to use their idea or experience unlike a well drilled team that always know what to do in and around the 18, that is the work of a real coach
Nigeria should be represented by her best players anywhere in the world, whether based in Sunshine stars or Real Madrid. It's not Gernot Rohr''s job to train home based players for their clubs. Of course, we are free to call on Rohr to insist on inviting any home based star , provided they are better than the current players in the team.
As for trophies, it's time we demand that he wins the next nations cup in 2021 and put up an appreciable performance at Qatar 2022.
In conclusion, his achievement will also depend on a top notch organized football administration.
All the best SE.
Fashamu is very correct to say that.rohr dont knw his work.how can you beat local teams like like benin, lesotho an still want your self to be praised? Even lobi star fc can beat the two national so fuck u rohr
