Ex international, Waidi Akanni has admonished the technical crew of the Super Eagles to work more on the finishing aspect of the team ahead of Saturday’s clash against Lesotho in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Super Eagles edged the Squirrels of Benin 2-1 thanks to goals from Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu, to ensure that the team picks the maximum point.
Akanni, who was unhappy with the players’ profligacy in front of goal against the Squirrels, told Soccernet.ng that the Super Eagles technical adviser must fix the loopholes before the game against Lesotho.
“Nigeria have started well with their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign and I am glad that the team really played very well,” Akanni told Soccernet.ng.
“I want to say that the scoreline should have been more than that considering the fact that we created many goal-scoring chances and could only score just two goals. I hope the technical crew led by Gernot Rohr must have seen these and ensure they correct the lapses.
“We must not repeat this same error against Lesotho but be clinical in front goal so as to put ourselves in a better position in the group.”
