Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi has been identified as the one player who is capable of turning the fortunes of the club around and save Everton manager Marco Silva from being dismissed from his position.
Ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker Noel Whelan has revealed that he is a big admirer of the 23-year-old Alex Iwobi and expects to see the Toffee’s boss hand the Nigerian more starts if Everton are to break lose from their current poor run of results, Soccernet.ng reports.
Iwobi has made just three league starts among eight appearances for Everton since signing from Arsenal during the summer window for a fee rising to a potential £35million.
Everton have lost their last four Premier League matches, the last of which was 1-0 at Burnley and Marco Silva is rumoured to be facing the axe if his side lose at home to West Ham after the international break.
However, Whelan believes he has seen enough positive signs from Iwobi to back the former Arsenal winger to bail the Blues boss out.
“He was the most effective Everton player against Burnley at the weekend,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“He’s got the pace and ability to beat players and create chances, and that’s something they’re lacking at the moment.
“Richarlison looks like he has lost confidence and belief in himself, and Iwobi is a bigger threat.
“He’s a brilliant talent, he just needs to find more consistency and better decision-making. The raw skill and ability is there.
“If he starts to realise his potential, he can keep Silva in his job.”
