Nobody Should Crucify Troost-Ekong, Says Former Super Eagles Defender

Ex international, Taribo West, has described accusation made against Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong as baseless and unwarranted.

Recall that on Wednesday, a BBC journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana, wrote via his twitter handle that Troost-Ekong displayed some elements of disrespect and arrogance in the Super Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

He quoted an unnamed source from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), that plans are being made to ban Troost-Ekong for being a disruptive influence around the Super Eagles team.

However, the Atlanta Olympic gold medalist, who fumed against such accusation against the Udinese defender, told Brila fm in an interview that was monitored by Soccernet.ng that Troost-Ekong has the right to always fight for what’s right and shouldn’t be condemned for his action.

“He shows little respect to officials and exhibits no decorum at functions, where he is known to be contemptuous. in camp and during functions.”

“If Ekong is fighting for his rights (bonuses) in the national team then it isn’t a problem; he has to do it because when he’s done playing nobody will remember him, this is a country that does not value its own,” West said.

“It happened to me and those before us, when you get injured nobody, not even the Federation comes to your aid.”

“When they (NFF officials) come to ask for handouts and you don’t give them, they could start a conspiracy against the player to get him sacked; it could be anything.”
