There were more football actions at the weekend in England, Italy, Spain, France and other top leagues in Europe and beyond with Nigeria-eligible stars involved in the thick of it all.
Soccernet.ng brings you the exploits of Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Henry Onyekuru, Joe Aribo and all your favourite Nigeria born stars for their respective clubs.
England
Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori: Chelsea 2-2 Sheffield United
Nigeria’s duo of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori sparkled but it was not enough for Chelsea to secure their first home win of the season, the Blues conceding a miserable late own goal at the Stamford Bridge to draw 2-2 with Sheffield United.
Tammy Abraham scored twice in the first half to put Chelsea on their way to commanding victory but a sorry display in the second half allowed Sheffield United to grab two goals that ensured the match ended in a stalemate.
Canada-born Fikayo Tomori was handed his first full debut in the league by Frank Lampard in the match.
Alex Iwobi, Everton 3-2 Wolves
On his first full debut for the home side, Iwobi grabbed his first league goal for the Toffees as they crushed the challenge of stubborn Wolves.
Richarlison opened the scoring for Everton in just the 5th minute but the visitors were back on level terms four minutes later. Iwobi then handed the initiative back to the hosts with a cute header soon after.
Another fine Richarlison header won the game for Everton with four minutes left to player after Wolves had equalized in the second half.
Oghenekaro Etebo, Birmingham 2-1 Stoke City
Stoke City gave up a second half lead to eventually lose 2-1 away to Birmingham City, with Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo m on the pitch from start to finish. His best efforts however couldn’t save the Potters from another defeat, their fifth loss in 6 matches.
The Potters are presently positioned at the bottom of the Championship table.
Spain
Samuel Chukwueze, Villarreal 2-2 Real Madrid
Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze was not among the goals but the Yellow Submarines did enough to earn a hard fought 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in La Liga’s last match on Sunday night.
An exciting night of goals and goals ended with no victor no vanquished as a Gareth Bale double secured a draw for Los Blancos at the Estadio De La Ceramics.
Ramon Azeez, Espanyol 0-3 Granada
Former skipper of the Flying Eagles Ramon Azeez got a fine goal in the 74th minute to hand Granada an impressive 3-0 victory at Espanyol in La Liga on Sunday.
Azeez was introduced as a second half when the scoreline was still 1-0 to the away side.
Greece
Chuba Akpom, PAOK Thessaloniki 2-1 Panionios
Former Arsenal Academy graduate Chuba Akpom scored his first league goal of the season as PAOK Thessaloniki claimed a hard fought 2-1 win against Panionios in the Greek Super League.
The England youth international who is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles kept his composure to fire home from just inside the penalty area in the 14th minute.
France
Henry Onyekuru, Strasbourg 2-2 Monaco
A late Strasbourg equalizer denied Monaco their first win of the season after a magnificent Islam Slimani brace had set the away side on the path to victory.
Super Eagles forward Henry Onyekuru came off the bench in the 89th minute but it was too little too late for the winger to work any magic as Monaco’s struggles continued.
Victor Osimhen, Reims 2-0 Lille
Lille’s Turkey star Yusuf Yazici earned himself a silly first half red card to hand Reims the advantage which the hosts duly obliged to thrash Lille 2-0 in the Ligue 1.
Victor Osimhen played the entire 90 minutes but he only had scraps to work on as a Doumbia penalty and a late Oudin strike deprived Lille of their first away points of the season.
Scotland
Joe Aribo, Sheyi Ojo: Rangers 0-2 Celtic
Celtic ended the Gers’ 12-game unbeaten run and moved three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after winning a frantic Old Firm contest.
Super Eagles first-time invitee Joe Ariboplayed for 70 minutes and his compatriot Sheyi Ojo came on at halftime in place of central midfielder Glen Kamara but the duo could do nothing as the home side fell to an Odsonne Edouard first half strike and a late Jonny Hayes clincher as Celtic made away with all three points at stake.
Serbia
Umar Sadiq, Partizan 1-1 Backa Topola
Roma loanee and one-time Dream Team V striker Sadiq Umar found the back of the net for Partizan after 44 minutes as the hosts were held to a 1-1 draw by Backa Topola in the Serbian Super Liga. The goal was Umar’s third for Partizan in all competitions this season.
