AFCON 2019 Semi-Final Betting Preview: Nigeria vs. Algeria

The Super Eagles and the Desert Foxes clash on Sunday at the Cairo International Stadium with the winner getting the chance to play in the title decider.

Two of Africa’s biggest football giants go head-to-head in the semi-final match at the Africa Cup of Nations in what promises to be a game for the ages.

Who will win?

The North African side is the bookmakers’ favourite to reach the final after being almost flawless throughout the tournament.

The Riyadh Mahrez-captained team has not appeared in the AFCON final since 1990, when they hosted and won, beating Nigeria in a closely-fought final.

However, the Algerians have won four of their five AFCON 2019 matches within the regulation time. Le Fennecs are priced at a juicy odd of (2.60) on Bet9ja to record another victory in this semifinal tie.

The Super Eagles have once again enjoyed a fantastic tournament, once again reaching the semifinal target they set for themselves at the start of the competition.

Nigeria have proven their mettle against such powerhouses like Cameroon, Guinea and South Africa to get to this stage. The same bookmakers have the West Africans on (3.10) to repeat the trick against Algeria, Sunday night.

Goals galore?

Both of these sides have been scoring goals for fun. In between them, they have blasted 17 goals past sorry opponents. A testament to either’s attacking prowess.

Both teams to score at (2.04) should bring a good return. Algeria have not failed to score in any match played at the tournament. Nigeria also have scored and won in four of their five games.

Facts That Favour A Nigeria Victory

The Desert Foxes also boast of the tournament’s best defense but the Super Eagles  are often unstoppable when playing against the North Africans, registering 10 goals in their last 5 meetings with them.

Placed in an accumulator, over 1.5 goals to be scored (1.43) look pretty decent.

Tip?

A high pressure match between two equally-matched teams at the latter stages of a major competition is often a hard call.

Nevertheless, Nigeria have avoided defeat to the Desert Foxes in each of their last five competitive fixtures. They are used to games of this magnitude, having featured in eight semi-final clashes out of their last nine appearances at the Afcon. The three-time champions have also won the AFCON title twice since Le Fennecs claimed their solitary honour.

A straight Nigerian win may be too long a shot to call but padded with a draw-no-bet security at (2.08) should return reward.
