AC Milan 1-0 Barcelona: Catalans End US Tour With Loss

Arthur Melo in action vs AC Milan

Despite being the dominant team throughout the game, FC Barcelona couldn’t get a win in their final game of the US Tour in the International Champions Cup as a late strike from Portuguese forward Andre Silva means the Catalans would go on to lose the game 1-0.

Coach Ernesto Valverde started Juan Miranda at left back over Marc Cucurella whilst also including new signings Arthur Melo, Malcom and Lenglet in the first eleven. Paco Alcacer partnered Munir El Haddadi in attack while Marlon Santos also started. Barca were very dominant in the first half with everything going well, however, they couldn’t find the cutting edge to get the opener and it ended 0-0 at halftime.

It was expected that Valverde will carry out a lot of changes at halftime but he only brought on Riqui Puig and Ter Stegen. Mingueza and Abel Ruiz also made the game and Barca looked pretty much in control of the second half but couldn’t get past the disciplined Milan defence made up of Mussachio and Ramagnoli with Donnarrumma in goal. The game looked destined for penalties until Andre Silva found himself alone with Ter Stegen and the Portuguese forward easily beat the Barca goalkeeper to get the only goal of the game in the last minute.

The result reflected quite the opposite of  what went down on the field as Barca played really well. Next up for the Catalans is the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla and the big names are expected to return.
