Ex-international, Peter Rufai believes the duo of Francis Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa remains Super Eagles goalkeeper ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Uzoho was within the goalpost in the two international friendly matches that Nigeria played against Poland and Serbia respectively, where he made some impressive saves against Robert Lewandowski.
However, Ezenwa was also in goal during the team’s qualification to the World Cup after the first-choice goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme was diagnosed with leukaemia.
But then, Rufai who has kept in two World Cup finals for the senior national team in 1994 and 1998 told Soccernet.com.ng that the Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr should focus more on improving the technicality of Uzoho and Ezenwa before the World Cup.
“You can’t really question the capability of a goalkeeper with just a few matches considering the fact that most goalkeepers get better with every game,” Rufai told Soccernet.com.ng.
“I am so much confidence in the duo of Francis Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa to man the goalpost for the Super Eagles at the World Cup because in football you can’t get a perfect goalkeeper.
“If the technical crew of the team work on those two goalkeepers I am very sure that their level of confidence will be high and that’s what makes a goalkeeper good.”
