Transfers: Barcelona ready to spend big

Barcelona are ready to spend big to support new coach Ernesto Valverde.

The former Athletic Bilbao coach’s appointment was confirmed by Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu on Monday afternoon.

Diario Gol says major squad changes are being planned, with Jeremy Mathieu and Arda Turan set to be sold. An attacker will be signed, as will a new centre-half.

A right-back and a central midfielder will also be discussed with Valverde. Barca’s top two choices are Arsenal fullback Hector Bellerin and PSG playmaker Marco Verratti.

Rafinha will be cashed in, however there could be a reprieve for Aleix Vidal, with the fullback admired by Valverde.
