Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan gaffer, Fatai Amoo has heaped praises on his lads for putting up a spirited performance against visiting Lobi Stars of Makurdi in their first match of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) 2016/2017 season.
Host 3SC started the game on front foot as the pace of shooting striker Wahab Afolabi greased the momentum of the game.
Oluyole warriors were on rampage and broke the deadlock in 21st minute when Waheed Afolabi raced through and blazed a cross from left by line of the pitch past the helpless Lobi’s keeper.
The pride of Benue responded immediately, but Adamu Abubakar was on ground to force a fine save from on rushing Sunday Alimi. The tempo at this stage was fast and furious as Lobi Stars seek a leveller. The referee had to signal the end of the first stanza as both teams were on front foot.
3SC had several chances in the early stage of the second Stanza but Afolabi frizzles alot . Oluyole warrior’s defence line were coordinated by the duo of Suraj Sodiq and Sylvanus Promise, they were able to hold the visitors down.
Fatai Amoo replaced Agogu Ebitimi with Sunday Faleye in a tactical substitution in 62nd minute and the result was immediate. Suraj Sodiq sent a long ball to Lobi’s area and the incoming Faleye raced through to slot home the winner to the delight of thousands fans.
Coach Fatai Amoo of 3SC later told newsmen that his team played well, describing it as a good performance.
He said his players were up against a very experienced team, thanking them for converting some of the chances.
Speaking on the team’s next match against Sunshine Stars of Akure, Amoo said the team would be worked upon to give a better performance.
“It is illogical to rate the boys now. We will work on them, particularly our defence line,” he said.
