Chelsea to quit Stamford Bridge for Wembley

Chelsea hierarchy are reportedly holding talks in a bid to replace Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in 2018, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues’ home Stamford Bridge is on course for a £500m revamp, with planning permission set to be granted for an extension on Monday. A Hammersmith and Fulham Council meeting is expected to give Chelsea the go-ahead, although they will need a temporary home from the summer of 2018 when construction would begin.

The Daily Mail say Wembley is the Blues’ first choice, with Spurs set to vacate it at the end of the season before.

Tottenham will use the 90,000-seater stadium next season while their new ground is completed next door to White Hart Lane.

The north London club, who beat Chelsea 2-0 in the Premier League last night, are said to be confident their new home will be ready to move into for the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

That would allow Chelsea to use Wembley, however, they could face difficulties if Tottenham incur delays.
