Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph revealed that he’s yet to come to terms with the elimination of the Desert Foxes of Algeria and the Elephant of Cote d’Ivoire at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Tipped as favourites to win the trophy, Algeria managed just three points after drawing all of their three group matches while Ivory Coast drew two and lost their last match against Morocco, to finish third place in group D.
However, Dosu, who was an integral part of the Dream Team VI that won gold at the Atlanta Olympic Games Men’s Football, told soccernet.com.ng that he was surprised that Ivory Coast and Algeria have been knocked out of the competition.
“This year’s Africa Cup of Nations have seen teams who are thought to be mighty fall like a pack of cards. If I was told that Ivory Coast and Algeria won’t make the quarter final spots of the competition, I will disagree with such person because they have a better team on parade to win the trophy,” Dosu toldSoccernet.com.ng
“However, I am shock that these two teams have been knocked out of AFCON by teams that could hardly be giving a second chance. Besides, this will explain how Africa football has grown beyond what it was known in the past,” he said.
