Falconets Depart For FIFA U-20 World Cup Sunday

Nigeria’s U-20 Women Team, Falconets, will depart Nigeria for Papua New Guinea on Sunday, 6th November ahead of the 8th FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup final holding 13th November – 3rd December 2016.

The delegation of 21 players and officials led by Head Coach Peter Dedevbo will fly out of the country aboard an Emirate Airlines flight from Lagos on Sunday evening. The Falconets, runners-up at the last edition of the championship (Canada2014), defeated Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa home and away to qualify for the World Cup.

The team Thursday evening lost 0-1 to the Super Falcons in their last test match before departure for Papua New Guinea 2016. Nigeria will open her World Cup campaign on November 13 against Japan before matches against Canada and Spain respectively.

Meanwhile, Falconets reached the quarter finals in Thailand 2004, Russia 2006 and Chile 2008, the semi finals in Japan 2012 and finished in second place in Germany 2010 and Canada 2014.
