Super Eagles and Arsenal Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has opened up on how World Cup winner Mesut Ozil has been of help since he broke into the Gunners’ first team last term.
In terms of sporting role models, it’s fair to say that Alex Iwobi has been spoilt for choice, having grown up under the legendary Jay-Jay Okocha’s guidance.
The 20-year old forward is now proving himself on the world stage, but he is still looking to learn from world-class players like Mesut Ozil who recently compared him to his skillful uncle and one of Netherlands’ finest player of all time Edgar Davis.
“Mesut just tells me that I’m young and need to express myself on the pitch. Obviously I need to listen to other people’s advice as well, but he tells me to always play with a smile on my face and enjoy the game.
“I’m the same kid I used to be, the same kid who used to work hard. There’s a bit of luck as well. For me to get that chance and take it like I did, I’m just fortunate and happy to have taken them. I guess it’s luck at the end of the day.
“I’m never really happy or satisfied with my performances. I always want to improve and I think that’s probably got me to whereI am. I’m still learning the game and want to be doing than what I am at the moment, so I’ll keep putting 100 per cent into whatever I do.” Iwobi told Arsenal Player.
The Nigerian international continued for fine form on Saturday as he helped Arsenal to a sixth consecutive league victories following a 3-2 win over Swansea City at the Emirates stadium.
