It was another midweek action of
football where players of different subdivisions were in action in various
competitions ranging from the Champions leagues to the Portuguese Segunda division.
In these games across Europe some
Nigerians were relatively in action for their respective clubs in Europe. We
captured those players who made an appearance for their respective teams.
On this note we highlight the performance of
these Nigerian players abroad across Europe.
CHAMPIONS
LEAGUE
Alex Iwobi continued where he left
off last weekend with a decent performance that earned him a man of the match
performance against Chelsea in the 3-0 win by starting once again alongside Walcott
and Mesut Ozil all behind Alexis Sanchez as they defeat FC Basel 2-0 courtesy
of Theo Walcott’s brace. He was replaced by Egyptian midfield player Mohammed Elneny
in the 70th minute.
Kelechi Iheanacho was on the bench
for the entire duration of the game for Manchester City while Celtic defender Efe
Ambrose was missing in action and need a change of fortune at the Scottish
giant to revive his club and Super Eagles carrier as qualifiers begins in earnest
with the Zambia test in Ndola early next month(October). Celtic draw 3-3 with
Guardiola’s Manchester City as the visitors drop their first point of the
season on the road ahead of their visit to White Hart Lane at the weekend.
PORTUGAL (DIVISION)
Stanley Awurm goal scorer for FC Portimonense in the 3-0 defeat of FC Porto B.
Sodiq Fatai was on from start to
finish as Leixoes FC drew (0-0) goalless with visiting side Gil Vincente.
Chidi Osuchukwu was missing in Braga
B match day squad while Aves FC midfield player Femi Emmanuel Balogun (23) came
on in the 58th minute to replace Alexandre Guedes as Braga B drew
2-2 with Aves FC.
Nigeria forward Stanley Awurum (26)
was a super-sub as he replaced Pires in the 82nd minute of the game
and added more gloss to the score line as he scored in the 90th
minutes to give Portimonense a 3-0 win over visiting FC Porto B side which
featured talented central defender Chidozie Awaziem for the entire duration of
the game.
IN FINLAND
Nigeria and KUPS defender Azubuike
Egwuekwe lasted the entire duration of the game while Paul Onobi was rooted to
the bench as they lost to host club Seinaejoen JK courtesy of Rospe Riski 74th
minutes solitary goal.
IN SLOVAKIA
As Trencin Nigerians like striker
Uche Nwofor, Samuel Kalu, started for AS Trencin while defender Christopher
Udeh and Aliko Bala were from the substitute bench as AS Trencin claimed a
vital 0-1 away win at host Velky Meder FC in the Slovakia Cup.
