Europe Wrap: Fred Friday scores as Ideye, Igiebor feature

AZ Alkmaar striker Fred Friday(21) scored his side second goal in the 3-0 win in the Europa-League.

It was an entertaining mid-week
of action in Europe as various clubs were in contention for league games and
qualifying matches to book a place in continental championships around Europe.
As all action are getting hotter, we take out time to catch a glimpse of the
Nigerian players abroad who featured for their respective clubs. On this note
we highlight the performance of these Nigerian professionals who are making hay
while the sun shines for themselves across various venues in Europe during the mid-week
fixtures.
EUROPA-LEAGUE
QUALIFICATIONS

FC Midtjylland duo of
Rilwan Hassan and Paul Onuachu started the match for their side but Rilwan
Hassan lasted for the entire duration while Onuachu was replaced in the 78th
minute by Mikkel Dueland. The duo were booked in the 66th and 23rd
minute respectively while Osmanlispor FK midfield player Raheem Lawal lasted
for 61 minute and was replaced by Musa Cagiran as Osmanlispor FK defeated
Midtjylland 0-1 away from home.
Olarenwaju Kayode
started the game but was substituted at the 90th minute by Kevin
Friesenbichler .Elsewhere Nigeria striker Sunny Omoregie came on in the 80th
minute to replace his Maribor teammate Brazilian forward Marcos Tavares (32) as
Maribor lost 3-1 to host FK Qabala.
Nigeria and Maccabi Tel
Aviv midfield player Nosakhare Emmanuel Igiebor was on from start to finish as
they beat visiting side Hajduk Split 2-1 in the Europa League qualification.
Nigeria duo of Imoh Ezekiel (due to Olympic
involvement) and Stefano Chuka Okaka was missing in action for Anderlecht (attack)
as the Belgium giant defeated Slavia Prague 0-3.
Nigerian defender Musa
Mohammad was missing in action for Istanbul Basaksehir match day squad as they
lost 1-2 to Ukraine giants Shakhtar Donetsk.
In-form striker Emmanuel
Emenike lasted the entire duration of the game for Fenerbahce side on the right
wing as they defeated visiting side Grasshopper FC with a huge 3-0 win.
Nigeria Super Eagles
invitee Wilfred (Onyinye) Ndidi lasted the entire duration of the game in the double
midfield pivot as his visiting side Genk FC drew 2-2 at host NK Lokomotiva.
Nigeria forward and AZ
Alkmaar new signing Fred Friday grabbed the second goal for his side in the 45th
minute as he finished a one-on-one move in between the goalkeeper’s legs to
make it 2-0 as they defeated host Vojvodina FC 3-0 away from home.
Gent talented forward
Moses Simon came on in the 73rd minute for Thomas Matton as they
defeated FK Shkendija 2-1.
Olympiacos forward
Brown Ideye lasted the entire duration of the game upfront as they claimed a
vital 0-1 away win at Arouca FC.
AS Trencin duo of
defender Christopher Udeh and Samuel Kalu lasted the entire duration of the
game while Aliko Bala lasted only 63rd minute and was replaced by
Erik Prekop while midfield talent Ibrahim Rabiu came into the fray at 62nd
minute of the game to replace Denis Janco as AS Trencin lost 0-4 at home to
visiting side Rapid Wien.
