The Nigeria U-20 football team, Flying Eagles on Tuesday evening defeated City Strikers 2-1 in a test game played in Abuja, ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-20 qualifier in Sudan.
Emmanuel Amuneke’s side took an early lead courtesy Gavin Thompson’s strike after 30 seconds before star forward Victor Osimhen added a second goal in the 21st minute.
City strikers, who are tutored by former U-20 player Peter Ogaba, fought back through Ikenna Christopher’s goal in the second half but could not get the second goal needed to level the scores.
The Flying Eagles are expected to fly out to Sudan on Thursday morning via Ethiopian Airlines ahead of their final U-20 AFCON qualifying clash at the weekend with the game slated for 8:00pm kickoff on Sunday night.
