Ahead of today’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying draws in Cairo, Egypt,
Flying Eagles coach, Emmanuel Amunike has revealed that the Super Eagles
could handle teams like Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Algeria and Senegal if
they are pitched against any of them.
Nigeria are in pot 3 in the new seeding while the other aforementioned
teams are in pot 1 which could give the Super Eagles a difficult task of
qualifying for the World Cup slated for Russia.
Amunike, who led the Golden Eaglets to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup
in Chile, told Soccernet.com.ng that the Super Eagles has nothing to be
afraid of against teams like Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Egypt ahead of
today’s draws in Cairo.
“As you know, there are no minnow as far as Africa football is concerned and it would
be an aberration if the Super Eagles start to show some element of fear
against some of the big teams that have been designed for pot 1,”
Amunike said.
“I don’t think Cote d’Ivoire, Algeria, Ghana, Egypt and Senegal will
really pose a threat for Nigeria if the right things are put in place by
the Nigeria Football Federation.
“I am optimistic that Nigeria will qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and nothing will stop them.” he concluded.
