Atletico Madrid defender and Captain Diego Godin has made it known in a recent interview that it will hurt less to see Barça win the Liga title instead of Real Madrid stating that the Madrid team are their bitter rivals.
Atletico Madrid hopes of winning the Liga title were dashed on matchday 37 after they lost 2-1 away to Levante leaving both Barça and Real Madrid to battle it out on the final day, Barça would go on to claim the title after a 3-0 mauling if Granada and that outcome would be a refreshing sight for Godin who wouldn’t like it for Real Madrid to triumph.
“If Barcelona win the league it hurts less, because our city rivals are RealMadrid,” the Uruguayan international said in an interview with COPE. “I do not hate them or anything, I have a lot of respect for Real Madrid, but I always want to beat them.”
Godin will captain Atletico Madrid in their UCL final clash against Real Madrid in Milan and the defender has stated that his team would use the 2014 loss as a lesson to improve their game on May 28.
“We have taken a lot of experiences out of the Lisbon game. We know how we have to play against Real Madrid and ahead of the game we are positive.
“We will put in a very tactical and physical game, and I think it will be decided by very little details. The team arrive in a very good physical condition for the final.
“We will compete at 150%. We know people say we are favourites after we eliminated Barça and Bayern but a game against Madrid is always 50/50.”
