Entry Extension – African Blogger Awards 2016; Focusing on Social Issues for a better Africa

The 3rd edition of the annual African Blogger Awards is here and have been opened for entries since mid February.

The African Blogger Awards also known as ABA was founded with the aim of recognising excellence in Sports and other blogging categories including Advice, Fashion and Beauty, Events and Nightlife, Education, Political, Technology and Gadgets, Youth Culture and many others.

Now with the help of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the organisers have introduced three new categories to honour social influencers who focus on social issues affecting Africans everyday. The new categories are;

  • Women and Girls’ Empowerment
  • Public Health
  • Social Issues and Active Citizenship

Speaking on the newly introduced categories, Murray Legg, co-founder of the African Blogger Awards said the new award categories are important for the recognition and encouragement of Bloggers who have devoted themselves to creating awereness for these social issues.

“Influencers are story tellers as much as journalists are, and often have access to stories that are missed in the mainstream media because of geographical limitations or staffing contraints in big media,” said Murray.
“They are able to spread news about critical issues to the audience that they’ve built. The three new categories recognise the importance of their reporting,” he added.

Afrrican Blogger Awards will be awarding over 20 social influencers this year, to be one of them visit here to submit your entries, entries closes on 14th May 2016.

Results will be announced 3rd June 2016 via the Organisers’ Twitter handle, @African_Blogger, from 11:00 GMT+2.
