Pellegrini reveals secret behind Iheanacho’s performance

Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, has revealed the secret behind Kelechi Iheanacho’s top form in the English Premier League this season.
The Nigerian introduced himself to Manchester City fans with a last-minute winner at Selhurst Park.

Six weeks later, he ran the show in a 5-1 drubbing of Alan Pardew’s side in the Capital One Cup.

The Chilean manager has used the 19-year-old sparingly, with Saturday’s start only Iheanacho’s third in the subsequent 18 games.

“I always say the same about young players,” said Pellegrini.

“If they are working every day and they play some games, when they have the option to play some games they must take the chance and every time Kelechi has played he has played very well.”

The manager wants his young players to make a difference every time they come on, rather than get used to coming on every game or so because it is a conventional change.

It is that thinking that has stopped Pellegrini throwing Iheanacho on occasions such as Everton last week, or when the team have built a comfortable advantage.

Iheanacho may well have impressed in more games had he been used more, for instance, helping both the player and the team.
