U-17 World Cup: Osimhen Ready For Australia

Victor Osimhen, Nigeria’s leading top scorer at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015, is looking forward to Wednesday’s Round of 16 clash against Australia with renewed enthusiasm.

Osimhen has scored a remarkable 45 goals in all competitions including four at Chile 2015 for the Golden Eaglets and he would be obvious target of The Joeys at the Estadio Sausalito on Wednesday.

” I’m not under any pressure because we are a solid team and anybody can score goals for us,” Osimhen told thenff.com” It is nice to have scored four goals so far in this competition but as a team, our objective is to win collectively.”

Nigeria is already being tipped as the favourites in this Round of 16 clash against Australia based on past records since the Golden Eaglets have won all five of the two teams’ previous meetings at FIFA U-17 World Cups, scoring 12 goals along the way while conceding just two. The last encounter in 2003 ended 2-1 in favour of Nigeria.

” We are not going to underrate any team because all the teams left in the competition want to win and it is even going to be more difficult because we are the defending champions,” reasoned Osimhen.

“It doesn’t matter to me if I score or not, what we want as a team is victory against Australia on Wednesday and we are not going to underrate them.”

Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets would revert to their white attire on Wednesday against The Joeys who will be in dark blue attire in a match that would be played at 12:00 midnight Nigerian time (8:00pm Chilean time) according to FIFA.

World soccer governing body has also confirmed the choice of Chilean officials for the match with the appointment of 34-year-old Roberto Tobar as the centre referee. He would be assisted by Marcelo Barraza and Christian Schueman. The fourth official is Levgenii Aranovskyi from Ukraine.

The Golden Eaglets duo of striker Funsho Bamgboye and defensive midfielder, Udochukwu Anumudu would in the meantime, be available for selection against Australia after serving their mandatory one match suspension against Croatia.
