Barcelona midfielder Rafinha Alcantara is set to sign a new three-year contract extension with Barça that will keep him at the club until June 2016.

Barça coach Luis Enrique has always been a big fan of the Brazilian youngster. He was the star’s coach during his time at Barça B and took him during is stint as coach of La Liga team Celta Vigo last two seasons. The player was also incorporated into the first team squad by the manager and both of them have a healthy relationship.

The star’s contract at Barcelona is due to end in June 2016 but Barcelona, surely under the directives of Coach Luis Enrique, are in talks with the player to renew his contract for three more seasons, meaning he will continue to be a Blaugrana until the summer of 2019.

As things stand, Barcelona are currently in an advanced stage of negotiation with Rafinha’s father, Mazinho and according to Spanish source AS, a deal will be struck between both parties in the next few weeks.

Mazinho, who is the father and agent of Rafinha and Thiago Alcantara spoke with Cadena SER and insisted his son and client is very likely to pen a contract renewal with Barcelona as he’s been in negotiations with the club since last year.

“It all seems to be going along well and let’s say that it doesn’t look like they will be any problem with his continuing at the club,” Mazinho was quoted as saying by Spanish radio Cadener Ser.

Rafinha is still working hard to get a starting spot in Luis Enrique’s team but is more likely to feature more regularly as a result of the departures of Pedro Rodriguez and Xavi Hernendez from the club this summer. He can play on both wings, as well as both sides of Barça’s attacking midfield position.

Another player that is set for a contract renewal is Brazilian left-back Adriano Correia. The player was highly tipped to leave the Camp Nou this summer with Italian giants AS Roma showing interest but a bid of around €4 million was reportedly rejected by the Catalan giants. Adriano, who is finding it difficult to get a starting spot at Barça sought for a move during the past transfer window but was convinced to stay by Luis Enrique as reported, and he is set to extend his contract until 2019.

Adriano is currently out with an injury but is doing well in training and may return for the team in their third Liga game of the season in two weeks time against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
