SoccerNet Nigeria:
FIFA called a press the afternoon where Mr Blatter announced his sensational resignation from the World Football governing body less than a week after winning the presidential election
Blatter said he will remain in charge until a new is president elected.Blatter will call an extraordinary Congress to choose next FIFA president.
Blatter had the following to say :
‘I have thoroughly considered and thought about my presidency and the last 40 years in my life. These years were closely related to FIFA and the wonderful sport of football I appreciate and love FIFA more than anything else.

‘I only want to do the best for FIFA and my institution. I decided to stand again as the best option for football. The elections are closed but the challenges we face haven’t come to and end. Fifa needs restructuring. Although fifa have given me a new mandate, it doesn’t seem to be supported by everyone – fans, clubs. Those who inspire FIFA like we do.

Blatter has come under fierce criticism and pressure over his reign especially after a massive corruption scandal within FIFA was unearthed by American prosecutors leading to arrests of close associates to Blatter.
Though investigations are still ongoing the scandal seems to have been one of the reason Blatter has decided to call it quits.
