Celtic
and Super Eagles defender, Efe Ambrose added another Scottish League title to
his name after the Glasgow giants were crowned champions for the fourth time in
a row.
Ronny
Delia’s side were crowned champions again after their closest rivals, Aberdeen lost
to Dundee United.
Efe
Ambrose started in the Celtic side that posted a 5-0 win over Dundee at Celtic Park
over the weekend. The Olympic silver medalist from the 2008 Beijing Olympic was substituted in the 65th minute. The latest league triumph by Celtic is the
third league title for Efe Ambrose since he was signed in 2012 from his
previous base in Israel with Ashdod.
The
former Kaduna United defender has been a key part of Celtic successes in recent
years. He was at his best under former manager Neil Lennon, who is now at
Championship side Bolton.
However, despite an indifferent season with loss of form and injuries whereupon he had to do with sometime on the bench, he has another title to his name. In March,
he also added the Scottish League Cup to the list of trophies he has won during
his time in Scotland.
Despite
Celtic’s unrivaled dominance in the Scottish top flight, especially since the
relegation of rivals, Rangers, they have found it difficult to replicate that
dominance in Europe. Although, Efe Ambrose was in the Celtic side that produced
one of their best European results at Celtic Park under Neil Lennon, when they
defeated Barcelona 2-1 in a Champions League group stage match in November,
2012.They however fell at the group stage of the Europa League this season after suffering elimination in the play off round of the Champions League.
Efe
Ambrose had an erratic time during the last AFCON 2015 qualifiers, where his poor
displays at right back contributed to an unconvining campaign by the Super
Eagles.
Although,
he would be buoyant in the euphoria of another title triumph in Scotland, whether
he would be part of the upcoming AFCON 2017 qualifiers remains to be seen.
