Swedish side IFK Norrköpings have confirmed that Nigerian striker Samuel Adegbenro has joined a Chinese side, but they refused to state his destination.

Adegbenro joined Norrköpings at the beginning of last season. The 26-year-old was more of a risky buy for The Comrades, as he had a poor season with Rosenberg before his move to Sweden.

However, the risk paid off, as he was the most prolific goalscorer in the Allsvenskan last season. He scored 17 goals and assisted two in 30 appearances to help Norrköpings to a seventh-placed finish in the Swedish top-flight.

His performances earned him a lot of interest in Europe, but a move away from Nya Parken did not materialise in the transfer window.

However, Norrköpings have confirmed that his time with them has ended, as they announced his sale to a Chinese side.

However, according to reports from Football Fans stuff, the club could be Beijing Guoan.

If the deal eventually pulls through, Adegbenro would become the second Nigerian player to ever feature for Beijing Beijing Guoan after former Super Eagles star Peter Utaka who featured for them in the 2014/15 season.

Norrköpings chief states condition for Adegbenro’s release https://soccernet.ng/2021/12/norrkopings-chief-states-condition-for-adegbenros-release.html https://soccernet.ng/2021/12/norrkopings-chief-states-condition-for-adegbenros-release.html#respond Wed, 29 Dec 2021 05:50:10 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=63868 The Nigerian forward could be on the move when the transfer window opens in January, but the Swedish side are not ready to give up without a fight

Norrköping’s chief scout Stig Tornbjörnsen has stated that they would only sell their hitman Samuel Adegbenro for a significant fee.

The Nigerian hitman was the best striker in Sweden last season after rattling the net 17 times in 30 games. He was the fourth Nigerian forward to achieve such a feat in over 20 years, after Peter Ijeh, Rasak Omotoyossi, and John Owoeri.

What also made his feat special was that he scored all those goals for a team that only scored 45 goals and finished in seventh place in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

The Osogbo-born forward has barely spent a year in Sweden after joining from Norwegian side Rosenborg, but with his achievements last season, a move away from the Whiteblue could be in the offing.

However, Norrköpings chief scout Stig Tornbjörnsen has revealed that it would take a lot of money for them to let go of their star man.

“If you have an all-Swedish top scorer, there is always the risk that you could lose him,” Stig told football direct.

“We want to get as much money out as possible if we were to sell him now.”

Although there are no concrete offers for Adegbenro, he could be a good buy as he is versatile and can play in all positions in attack.

Akinkunmi Amo misses out on becoming the second Nigerian to win Allsvenskan young player award https://soccernet.ng/2021/12/akinkunmi-amoo-wins-allsvenskan-award.html https://soccernet.ng/2021/12/akinkunmi-amoo-wins-allsvenskan-award.html#comments Wed, 08 Dec 2021 15:44:42 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=62823 The 19-year-old star has spent just 18 months in Sweden, but he has already made a big impression

Former Golden Eaglets Akinkunmi Amoo narrowly missed out on the award for the best young player in the 2021 Swedish Allsvenskan season.

The Hammarby star lost to Veljko Birmancevic, who won the award after helping Malmo become champions.

Amoo would have been the second Nigerian after to win the award after Alhassan Yusuf, who won it while playing for IFK Goteborg.

The Hammarby academy product arrived from Nigerian amateur side FC Sido in June 2020, but it didn’t take him time to get into the first team as he got his chance just three months later.

This season, he became an established player for the former Allsvenskan champions, making 29 league appearances out of a possible 30.

The 19-year-old did deliver, as he registered nine goals and five assists to help Hammarby to a fifth-place finish.

Amoo was part of the team that represented Nigeria at the 2019 U-17 World Cup in Brazil. He had three assists to his name in that competition.
