Super Eagles star hungry to score ‘more goals’ for Leicester despite links away from King Power Stadium https://soccernet.ng/2023/08/super-eagles-star-hungry-to-score-more-goals-for-leicester-despite-links-away-from-king-power-stadium.html https://soccernet.ng/2023/08/super-eagles-star-hungry-to-score-more-goals-for-leicester-despite-links-away-from-king-power-stadium.html#respond Fri, 11 Aug 2023 18:07:21 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=101784 Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first goal of the season for Leicester City in their 2-0 League Cup victory away at Burton Albion on Wednesday night

Super Eagles star, Kelechi Iheanacho, has declared that he is looking forward to scoring more goals for Leicester City this season, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old who as been linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, opened his goal scoring account of the season after just six minutes with a back-heeled finish in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup first-round victory against Burton Albion. He later assisted his compatriots Wilfred Ndidi to double the Foxes’ advantage.

Ahead of the club’s first away game of the 2023-24 Skybet Championship campaign against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, Iheanacho is eager to continue his goal-scoring run for the Foxes.

City will be hoping to carry on their form of two wins in two competitions come Saturday afternoon.

Hopefully we keep it going against Huddersfield, the Nigerian striker told the club’s official website. It was a good game; we did what we needed to do. We controlled most of the ball, got the goals and hopefully we take this into the Weekend.

It’s a great feeling to score my first goal of the season. I wasn’t expecting the ball, so it was nice to see it go into the bottom corner, and hopefully there are more goals to come.

My back was to the goal, but we always working on finishing in training so that one might only come once in a while, but I’m happy I was able to take it and help the team as well.

The Leicester City number 14 also spoke about the progress the squad is making under new manager Enzo Maresca, who replaced Dean Smith after the club was relegated from the Premier League last season.

He continued: The new manager has really brought something to the club. They’ve changed the mood in the team, the tactics and we know what they want now. So it’s just about practising, repeating it every day so that it becomes perfect and hopefully we’ll get there.

It’s part of the tactic, for me to drop deeper and drag the centre-backs out of position, but it’s working well and hopefully we do a bit more in training so that it becomes more natural, and we see the reward on the pitch.

Iheanacho will aim to help Leicester build on last week’s 2-1 league victory over rivals Coventry City when they face Huddersfield Town at John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Huddersfield Town signs Nigeria-eligible winger on loan https://soccernet.ng/2023/01/huddersfield-town-signs-nigeria-eligible-winger-on-loan.html https://soccernet.ng/2023/01/huddersfield-town-signs-nigeria-eligible-winger-on-loan.html#respond Wed, 18 Jan 2023 14:36:15 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=86624 Huddersfield Town, which is at the bottom of the EFL championship rankings, has added the player who is eligible to play in Nigeria to their team in an effort to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the year.

EFL Championship club, Huddersfield town, have announced the signing of Nigeria-eligible forward, Joseph  Hungbo from Watford FC.

The player, born to a Nigerian father and a Togolese mother, will be with the John Smith’s stadium for the remainder of the 2022–23 Sky Bet Championship season, the club confirmed.

With his fourth loan in his career—all of which have been in England—Hungbo will join to Huddersfield Town on loan.

The winger moved to Watford from Crystal Palace in July 2019. Prior to that, he spent considerable time at Ross County, where he scored six goals in 33 games and won awards for both the club’s and the league’s Goal of the Season, as well as Young Player of the Year and Players’ Young Player of the Year.

Nine games have been played by the 23-year-old for the Hornets this season, although he has not been a starter since Slaven Bilic was named manager in September.

Head of Football Operations, Leigh Bromby, comments on the signing of the forward by saying that he would incite competitiveness in their attack and pose a serious danger to their rivals.

“We’re really excited to bring Joseph into the group and increase the competition for places within our forward line. He’s a dynamic winger who will bring more pace to the team, giving us the option to progress forward in a direct manner.

“He had a really impressive time on loan in the Scottish Premiership last season and has done enough to be involved with the Watford first team this year, so we definitely think he’s ready to come in and contribute at this level straight away.” he said, via a statement on Huddersfield club website.

The Nigerian-eligible player, who has yet to hear from Nigerian Football, is being attentively monitored since he has yet to debut for the Three Lions.

It would not be a surprise if Hungbo takes the same decision when the time comes, much as players like Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, and a host of others who have chosen to play for the Nigerian side instead of the English national team.

However, Hungbo is anticipated to make his Terriers debut when Huddersfield visits Bloomfield Road for their next game.

Chelsea agree deal with Huddersfield for whizkid of Nigerian descent https://soccernet.ng/2022/07/chelsea-agree-deal-with-huddersfield-for-wizkid-of-nigerian-descent.html https://soccernet.ng/2022/07/chelsea-agree-deal-with-huddersfield-for-wizkid-of-nigerian-descent.html#respond Thu, 21 Jul 2022 17:38:28 +0000 https://soccernet.ng/?p=77207 The Blues are working hard on bringing in new signings and facilitating loan deals for their youngsters as the transfer season hits top gear

Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Faustino Adebola Rasheed Anjorin will leave Chelsea to spend the entirety of the 2022-23 season at Championship campaigners Huddersfield Town, according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.

Romano claims that Chelsea and Huddersfield Town have agreed on a year-long loan deal for the 20-year-old as he seeks to continue his development.

Coventry City, Queens Park Rangers, and Norwich City were all interested in taking Anjorin from Chelsea, but Huddersfield have won the race for his signature.

Anjorin spent the second half of last season on loan at Huddersfield, and he must have made quite an impression on the Terriers, who finished third on the table but lost out in the promotion playoffs.

Anjorin joined Chelsea at the under-9 level and has excelled through the ranks, helping the club win the 2017–18 FA Youth Cup.

The England youth international has, however, struggled to break into the Chelsea first team.

Things do not look like they would change any time soon, as manager Thomas Tuchel did not include him in the first team’s pre-season preparations.

The young attacking midfielder has three years to run on his contract with Chelsea.
