The Nigeria senior national side will likely be without the team captain when they face the former African champions later this month
Super Eagles’ preparation for the international friendly against Algeria on September 27 has been hit with another injury blow, this time concerning captain Ahmed Musa.
Ahmed Musa is the latest Super Eagles star set to withdraw from Nigeria’s upcoming friendly against Algeria due to injury.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner lasted only 19 minutes in Sivasspor’s 2-1 league defeat away to Ankaragücü on Sunday before he injured his left arm. Musa was replaced despite receiving treatment on the pitch.
Sivasspor have confirmed that the former Leicester City forward has suffered a fracture in his left arm, putting his participation in the Algerian friendly in serious doubt.
Nigeria has already been hit with several withdrawals necessitated by injury. QPR defender Leon Balogun pulled out of the game, allowing Sochaux centre-back Valentine Ozornwafor to take his spot.
Nottingham Forest’s Emmanuel Dennis has already been called up as a replacement for injured Adana Demirspor star Henry Onyekuru.
It would be recalled that injuries to the striking duo of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq earlier ruled them out of the trip to Oran next week.
Head coach Jose Peseiro will hope that, despite the withdrawals, he can present a formidable team against 2019 African champions Algeria.
The Super Eagles have lost their last three fixtures against the Desert Warriors and will look to buckle that trend in Oran on September 27.
